Douglas Trumbull - born 8 April 1942, Los Angeles, California, USA. Legendary filmmaker and visual effects pioneer, responsible for the effects of films including '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968), 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977), 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' (1979), and directing several movies including the science fiction classic 'Silent Running' (1972). He has received an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement, and an ASC Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been involved in the design of theme park simulators, including 'Back to the Future-The Ride' - the most popular theme park attraction in the world. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Imax Corporation, which acquired the Trumbull Company, where he developed an IMAX ride simulation system.
