English Patient, The

The English Patient, USA (1996), directed by Anthony Minghella, from the novel by Michael Ondaatje. Tended by a devoted nurse in a deserted Italian villa at the end of WWII, a dying Austrian count (Ralph Fiennes) recalls his doomed affair with the English wife (Juliette Binoche) of a colleague. Also stars Willem Dafoe, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1996.
