The fourth part of the New Jersey Chronicles, Kevin Smith's comedic take on his own Roman Catholic faith, sparked considerable controversy even before its release and was dropped by original distributor Miramax as a result of the outcry. Abortion clinic worker Bethany, a lapsed Catholic, is sent on a holy crusade to stop fallen angels Loki and Bartleby from taking advantage of a New Jersey church's offer of plenary indulgence - a loophole that would get them back into heaven, but would negate all of existence. Accompanying her on her quest are a muse, the 13th apostle, the voice of God and the unlikely "prophets" Jay and Silent Bob.
