Cassidy, EvaWeb Directory

Eva Cassidy (1963-1996) was a local performer in the Washington, DC area and released 2 CD's locally. The first was a duet with Washington's famous Chuck Brown and the second was a self-financed live recording entitled 'Live at Blues Alley'. She died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 33, just as her talent was starting to be recognised. After her death, another CD was released 'Eva By Heart', which contained studio tracks she was working on. Then a release, which included tracks from the other 3 CD's, was distributed worldwide, called 'SongBird'. Most recently a final record entitled 'Time After Time' has been released. Her style is difficult to classify - being a mixture of pop, blues, jazz, R and B, gospel and folk. Many of her recordings are beautiful versions of other peoples songs, for example 'Fields of Gold' by Sting, and 'Over the Rainbow' by Judy Garland. She had a love for music and art, her whole life. 'Fields of Gold' was used by the skater Michelle Kwan in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, thus introducing her music to a huge new audience.
