Enigma is a musical experiment by European musician Michael Cretu, originally done under a pseudonym (Curly M.C.). It combines samples with some ethereal music leading to a very unique sound. While extremely popular in Europe, with many singles being released and getting quite a bit of radio play, in the United States there's been much less attention, with minimal play on radio stations. This has not prevented Enigma from doing well in the US; the first album, MCMXC a.d., spent well over 200 weeks on the Billboard Top 100 Albums. Enigma's music has used repeatedly in television commercials and shows as background music, and also in a large number of movie trailers, such as The Matrix.
