Slovak Romantic period composer Ján Levoslav Bella (1843-1936) was born and died in the Hungary of his time. He is now honored as a great among Slovakian artists. Ordained as a priest, he wrote church music as well as songs in German and Slovak, the symphonic poem Fate and the Ideal, and the opera Wieland der Schmied.
