Italian Romantic period composer Vincenzo Salvatore Carmelo Francesco Bellini (1801-1835) helped to shape nineteenth century Italian opera during his brief life. His treatment of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in I Capuleti e i Montecchi was the first to maintain popularity. Other operas include Norma, La Sonnambula, and I Puritani. His Oboe Concerto also stayed somewhat popular.
