Sir William Sterndale Bennett (1816-1875) was an English Romantic composer of renown. He wrote well in several genres but his popularity waned, perhaps in part because he withdrew from composition in favor of being Professor of Music at the University of Cambridge and later Principal of the Royal Academy of Music.
