Bernstein, ElmerWeb Directory

American film composer Elmer Bernstein (1922-) graduated from Julliard school of music. In the early 1950s, he took almost any job available to establish himself, possibly explaining why his name is on the credits of Robot Monster. His breakthrough came with his score for The Man with the Golden Arm (1955). Then came such classics as DeMille's The Ten Commandments (1956), The Magnificent Seven (1960), and others. He received an Oscar nomination for The Age of Innocence (1993) but won his only Academy Award for 1967's Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which he wrote only the background music and none of the individual songs.
