Fux, Johann JosephWeb Directory

Austrian composer and musicologist Johann Joseph Fux (1660-1741) wrote secular and sacred music, including operas, masses, Psalms, requiems, and instrumental pieces. He was an accomplished organist and became imperial composer and musical director of the imperial court. Yet for all his other abilities, Fux is most remembered for his Gradus ad Parnassum, a theoretical work on counterpoint that influenced Bach, Haydn, and Beethoven, among others.
