Austrian late Romantic period conductor and composer Eduard Strauss (1835-1916) was the last of the three sons of Johann Strauss, Sr. to become a musician. His first plan was to become a diplomat. Never the writer of music that his father and elder brothers were, he was a gifted interpreter of their music and that of Wagner and others. He spent many years leading tours of the Strauss Orchestra.
