Maggie Smith - English leading actress, with a taste for eccentric comedy, born 28th December 1934, Ilford, Essex. Appointed a CBE in 1970 and a DBE (Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 1990. Has been nominated for Oscars on six separate occasions, winning twice.
