Sir John Mills - British leading actor, born 22nd February 1908, Felixstowe, Suffolk. He overcame his short stature to become a stiff-upper-lip actor of the 1940's, then later a character actor of some versatility. Has appeared in about 110 films, including 'In Which we Serve' (1942), 'Great Expectations' (1946), 'Tiger Bay' (1959), in which daughter Hayley made her debut, 'Ryan's Daughter' (1971), for which he got an Oscar, and in Kenneth Branagh's acclaimed 'Hamlet' (1996). He is the father of actresses Juliet Mills and Hayley Mills, and was appointed a CBE in 1960 and knighted in 1976.
