Based on the British television series 'Pop Idol,' this American version, seen on the Fox Network, will search for a new singing star. Open auditions are performed before the start of each new season. The judges select 32 finalists, and after further competition, the top 12 singers are selected. The viewing audience votes for their favorite contestants. Those with the most votes move forward; the one with the least votes is eliminated. Weekly eliminations continue until only the top 2 remain. The winner is then promoted as the 'American Idol' and is given a recording contract. This successful and popular television show features music, drama, personal insight into the contestant's lives, and commentary from the host and the opinionated judges.
