Many concerts, shows, themed attractions, and other entertainments involve complex pre-programmed effects, lighting and audio. Each subsection of the event has its own control system, for example lighting is often controlled by a lighting console and motion control often has individual controllers for each manufacturer's product.
Show control systems are intended to gather automated control of all parts of a show under a common umbrella. The central show control hardware or software typically does not control lighting, audio, etc. directly, but instead cues the existing control systems as to when to do their thing. This allows precise synchronization of different systems, which is particularly helpful for repetitious shows such as installed theme entertainment.
