Offset LithographyWeb Directory

Offset Lithography is a printing technique that places ink and water on a chemically treated printing plate. The ink is attracted to the image area and the water is attracted to the non-image area. The inked image is then transferred to a rubber blanket and finally to the paper.

Sheetfed offset presses print on paper that has been cut into individual sheets prior to printing. Web offset presses print from rolls of paper, and any cutting is done after the printing.

This process is frequently used to print publications, catalogs, newspaper supplements, labels, boxes, direct mail pieces, and for other commercial applications.
