This category is for GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection. Originally, GCC meant GNU C Compiler. Then C++ was added, and then other languages that do not start with the letter "C". Clearly, the acronym needed a new semantics, so it was renamed. GCC is developed and maintained as Free Software (Open Source) by the Free Software Foundation (FSF), GNU project, for programmers, and the GNU system.
