This category is for sites devoted to African-American heritage recipes and soul food. Soul food grew from the subsistence diet of African-Americans while they were in bondage, first by physical chains, then economic ones. The term its self was first coined by African-Americans living in the Northern states to describe their food heritage. While it is somewhat a derivative of Southern cooking, it is eaten all over the United States.
