AnemiaWeb Directory

Anemia is a condition in which the body doesn't have enough red blood cells or hemoglobin, the part of the blood cells where oxygen sticks. People with anemia can look pale, have trouble breathing, and get tired easily.

A diet that doesn't have enough iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid can cause anemia. An infection can stop bone marrow from making more red blood cells. In some diseases, the red blood cells change shape and are destroyed when they can't move through the body.

Eating a better diet can help. When an infection goes away, anemia usually does, too. Doctors can give blood transfusions if the condition doesn't get better.
