ChickenpoxWeb Directory

Chickenpox is an infectious disease caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), which belongs to the herpes virus family. It is spread by coughing or sneezing and is very contagious. The symptoms may start like a cold with a runny nose, sneezing, and a cough. In 1 to 2 days, the rash begins on the chest and face. These bumps look like little blisters and while some are getting better, others can appear. After 3 to 7 days, the blisters stop appearing and start to heal. If you scratch the bumps, they can break open and leave a scar or get infected. Use calamine lotion or a cool oatmeal bath to help the itchiness. There is a vaccine to prevent this disease.
