The Institute of Materials Science (IMS), established in 1965 by the Connecticut General Assembly, is to maintain an outstanding research center in the interdisciplinary fields of materials science at The University of Connecticut, to provide superior graduate research training, and to act as source of advanced technology for the support of industry in the State.
