Founded in 1701, Yale College was a place "wherein Youth...through the blessing of Almighty God may be fitted for Publick employment both in Church & Civil State." In 1822 the Divinity School became a separate school within the University and now is one of eleven graduate and professional schools, which, with the College, comprise Yale University.
