On Dec. 3, 1984, one of the worst industrial accidents in history occurred when a toxic gas leaked from a tank of methyl isocyanate (MIC) at a Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) insecticide plant. Over 6,000 persons have died as a result of this incident.
