Nara is one of Japan's greatest historical and cultural cities, and was the capital of Japan from 710 to 784 A.D. It was modelled after Chang'an (Xian), which was the capital city of Tang China. It is also where the Todaiji Buddhist temple is located, which is the world's largest wooden building, holding the world's largest gilded bronze Buddha statue.
