Sultan Kudarat is located on the southwestern part of Mindanao Island. It was created on November 22, 1973 from part of Cotabato and was named after the Muslim leader Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat. The municipalities of Kalamansig, Lebak, Palimbang, Esperanza, Isulan, Lutayan, Lambayong, President Quirino, Tacurong, Senator Ninoy Aquino, and the inland of Bagumbayanm Columbio are in this province.
