WalmerWeb Directory

This category is for sites relating to the village of Walmer in Kent. It lies one half mile south of Deal and six miles north of Dover. It is said that Julius Caesar landed on Walmer beach in 55BC, but is more famous for the castle built by Henry VIII in 1540. Walmer castle is the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Admiral the Lord Boyce GCB OBE. The post was held until her death by H.M. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Old St Mary's, Walmer was built around 1120 and if legend is correct provided a bow to Richard Coeur de Lion for the Third Crusade from one of the two yew trees in the grounds. Today, Walmer has a Parish Council and is part of Dover District Council.
