Arnold

Population (2000) est. = 35,900*

Arnold was referred to as 'Ernehale' in the Domesday Book, which translates as 'the valley of eagles'. Richard Parkes Bonington, an early 19th century painter was born in Arnold, and is probably its most famous alumni. The Open Directory Project has a category for him here. Arnold was also the home of 'Home Brewery', sadly the brewery closed in 1997 although the distinctive building that housed it is listed and is probably still the most prominent landmark.
