The Science and Technology Facilities Council was formed in 2007 by a merger of the former Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) and the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC). The new entity directs and co-ordinates the funding of research in national and international programmes in particle physics, technology, astronomy, cosmology and space science.
