Holywell is a market town, named after a holy well known from the Roman occupancy, but later dedicated to St Winefride,
and marketed as the Lourdes of Wales.
Holywell is a council area, which is given as the postal town for villages in the area, providing a total population around 9,000.
From lead mining, copper and cotton milling industries, along the valley to the north east of the town,
a port on the Dee Estuary was developed, now served by the Greenfield locality category.
Along the A5026 to the east is the council for Bagillt
The A5026 south east of Holywell leads to the Halkyn locality category.
Brynford is to the south west, and the A5026 to the north west leads
to Carmel, Gorsedd, and Whitford Council.
North of Whitford village, is Mostyn Council on the Dee Estuary.
