Havelock is a small coastal town at the head of Pelorus Sound, one of four major waterways making up Marlborough Sounds. Key industries are fishing, aquaculture, and tourism. Havelock is recognised as the centre of New Zealand’s greenshell mussel industry, and renowned for the annual Havelock Mussel Festival. Nuclear physicist Ernest Rutherford and rocket scientist William Pickering were once residents of Havelock.
