This ecologically and economically important suborder includes cicadas, leafhoppers, treehoppers, planthoppers, whiteflies, aphids, adelgids, scale insects, spittlebugs, mealybugs and many others. The forewings and hindwings are both entirely membranous. All are herbivorous feeding on plant juices.
