'The Huns' is a name given to groups of nomadic people who are known to have populated or invaded much of central Asia, from the second century BC onwards. They include the western Huns who attacked early Germanic lands and the Roman empire, the White Huns who destroyed the Gupta empire in India, and a number of groups who were in regular conflict with the Chinese. Several modern ethnic groups, including Mongols, Hungarians, and Turks, are allied to them.
