Rev. Albert Bejamin Simpson D.D. was the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The denomination has its root in two societies founded by Simpson in 1887: The Christian Alliance, and The Evangelical Missionary Alliance. In 1897, the two were merged to form the C&MA, which was originally a missionary society. He also started the magazine which today is known as Alliance Life -- formerly known as The Alliance Weekly (1911-1958) and The Alliance Witness (1958-1987). In addition to his work as a pastor and organizer of missionary societies, he wrote over 70 books and many articles. He also wrote hymns, but was a much better lyricist than composer; generally speaking, the ones that are still in use are those for which he wrote the words and someone else wrote the tune.
