The Waldensians originated as an heretical sect in the second half of the twelfth century and survived mainly in the Northern valleys of Italy. Although they didn't identify with the early Protestant reformation, as they disagreed with the Luther's doctrine of predestination, they later allied with the Methodists (who like Catholics and Waldensians affirmed free will, In a considerably modified form, the group has survived to the present day.
