Miners in China’s Sichuan province will have to reduce energy consumption during the drought

The authorities of the Chinese province of Sichuan asked mining companies to limit electricity consumption during the dry season.

In southwestern China, there are several hydroelectric power plants that generate enough electricity during the rainy season, but during the dry season, which lasts from October to April, electricity generation is reduced. Therefore, in order to provide more important consumers, the Sichuan provincial authorities have asked mining companies to limit their energy consumption.

Mining companies are not welcome in China, but during the rainy season, more electricity is generated than necessary, so the work of farms is usually not regulated. But in the dry season, there is only enough electricity for the local population and more traditional businesses.

Earlier it was reported that Chinese regulators plan to tighten supervision of mining companies. Last week, the authorities of Hebei province confiscated
almost 7,000 ASIC miners for bitcoin mining, illegally connected to the power grid. In the future, similar raids will also be carried out, the purpose of which is to eliminate the theft of electricity.
