McCartney, Paul

Sir Paul McCartney is a famed musician, composer, and recording artist who has appeared in several movies and television specials. He is also well known as a painter, author, environmentalist, and a community and world activist. Born James Paul McCartney on June 18, 1942 in Liverpool, England, U.K. Originally rose to fame in the early 1960s as a member of The Beatles. He continued his musical career after The Beatles breakup in 1970, formed the group Wings, and became a successful solo artist. His songs have won Grammy Awards and have been nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, and a Emmy. McCartney was knighted in December, 1996. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Beatles in 1988, and as a solo artist in 1999.
