The University of Melbourne was the fist university in the state of Victorian, first established 1855 with an enrolment of 16. There were 38,674 students enrolled in 2003. It offers a vast range of coursework and research programs at a number of campuses across the state. The private arm, Melbourne University Private provides sector and client specific education, research and consultancy services.
