Trinidad and Tobago is a multiethnic country, consisting of two main islands, and peoples from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. This twin-island republic located at the southern end of the chain of islands in the Caribbean, has been independent since 1962 and is populated by approximately 1.3 million people.
