The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is the culmination of the United States Air Force Lightweight Fighter Program, which answered responses to criticisms of the F-15, and developed in conjunction with four other NATO countries: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway. It was originally built by General Dynamics, which was later acquired by Lockheed Martin, and is widely deployed around the world.
