Congregational Methodist

The Congregational Methodist Church was organized in 1852 in order to meet the need for a Methodist Church with a system of government more in harmony with the practices of early Christianity. Their prime objection to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South was that lay people had no say in the government of their church and competent lay people could not become ministers because of the stringent educational qualifications for ordination.
