The City of Lake Forest is located in south Orange County in an area known as the Saddleback Valley. It is bordered by Mission Viejo on the east, Laguna Woods and Laguna Hills to the south, Irvine to the west, and Foothill Ranch to the north. The population estimate in 2010 was 78,720. El Toro: Prior to incorporation as a city in 1991, the Lake Forest area earlier carried the name El Toro, a name dating back to the 1800's, when the area was part of the Spanish land grant known as Rancho Canada de Los Alisos. More recently, El Toro was the original post office designation as well as the home of the now decomissioned El Toro Marine Base. Heritage Hill Historical Park: Orange County's first historic park is home to the 1863 Serrano Adobe (California State Historical Landmark No. 199).
