Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park is a 184 mile hiking and biking trail that stretches from Washington DC to Cumberland, Maryland. It was originally planned as a canal to link Washington DC to Pittsburg. It runs along the Potomac River and is one of the best preserved and least altered of old American canals.
