The Santa Cruz Mountains lie between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay, occupying parts of San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. The Santa Cruz Mountains American Viticultural Area is surrounded by the Central Coast American Viticultural Area, but is not part of it.
